We ended our busy week with the parade and plenty of treats! We all had a good time at the parade whether we were on the football float or watching it and collecting candy and other goodies! The fourth graders really did a nice job of coming dressed in the colors for the week and wearing their maroon and white today! Good luck to the 4th football boys tomorrow in their play off games!
Update on curriculum:
Science:
We will be video-taping our food group posters on Monday. I hope to get them uploaded onto VoiceThread and the link posted on here and on our new school website by the end of next week. Students are working hard now on synthesizing their learning in writing. We will have a short unit on digestion beginning next week that flows nicely from our unit on nutrition.
Social Studies:
We took a break from social studies this week and will start back up next week previewing some important terms that we will be studying all year long about geography. The teachers are anxious to introduce the inquiry unit about Why do people move and travel. It will be the first time we have taught social studies this way, but we hope it is more engaging and relevant!
Math:
In math we have moved away from place value and addition and subtraction strategies, to studying about the meaning of multiplication through arrays, fact practice, strategy discussion, and problem solving. The students seem to be enjoying the unit and especially the "Quick Images" activities we do after lunch.
Reading:
Our books in reading groups will be changing in another week to focus on the theme "American Stories." Some students will have new reading group teachers, but several will stay the same. For whole group learning in the classroom, American Stories will also be introduced with work out of the basal. Our glogs on the Titanic have been a bit of a headache due to technology glitches, but I am hoping we can get a lot of work done on those next week and be ready to share them with you all soon after!
So, check back soon to the blog and the new school website to watch videos and view glogs of what we've been doing in the classroom!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Brecher
