Tests tomorrow and other updates...

There are two tests tomorrow, both in science and social studies. I rarely give 2 tests on one day, but the students know the content well and I am confident they will do just fine. We've gone over maps and nutrition now for four weeks, so I need to do a formal individual check to see how each student is doing.

To help study this evening - I asked the students to quiz themselves for 10 minutes over their yellow nutrition study guide (front and back).  For social studies, they all have a packet they can use to help them complete the crossword puzzle as a review. All of these papers are in their homework folder!

The kids did a wonderful job on their book reports! I am very pleased with how well they did summarizing the problem and important events.  I didn't have any problem with untimely reports turned in either so that is a plus! They are all looking for good books to read now as we need to start thinking about next month's book report.  The format is a traditional story map (similar to 3rd grade) but NO written part to go with it - that comes up next month!

The kids are really enjoying their time in science making food posters displaying a new, creative way to represent the food groups. I have high hopes to video tape their demonstrations and post them on the blog so you can view them at home! We are also excited to start a new unit in math on multiplication and to start our "Glogs" next week over the Titanic (the story we last read in large group reading).  Check back in to see videos of the science posters and links to their Titanic glogs! (Glogs are basically interactive digital posters that can include images, text, links, videos, sound, and more!)

Next week is Homecoming week - look for information coming home. I know on Monday there is a pep assembly in the gym at the end of the day with the high school band and cheerleaders coming down.  On Friday we will be attending the parade on the north side of the school.  There were will be a few items for sale as well.  We're also going to make next week a colorful week with some dress-up days showing our pioneer spirit.
* Monday - Orange you glad to be a pioneer (wear ORANGE)
* Tuesday - We're red hot with pioneer pride (wear RED)
* Wednesday - The grass is greener on the Pioneer side (wear GREEN)
* Thursday - Pioneers shine bright (wear YELLOW)
* Friday - Spirit day (wear MAROON and WHITE)
